Grandpa's Surprise
On June 23rd, Dad came to rescue Mom and take her back home; me and the kids went back to Utah with them, so it wasn't much of an escape :). Anyhow...He brought Emmy a surprise. Back in May, my parents went to Houston, TX; which is the place my Dad served his mission ( like 38 yrs ago...right Dad?). Their purpose in going was to visit a lady my dad taught on his mission and who joined the church. Her name is Hatsui Hogg. She is from Japan and is now in her 80's. I've heard about Hatsui my whole life. She would send us things when we were little and I've talked with her on the phone, but have never met her. Theo, my brother-in-law, also served his mission in Houston, TX. While serving there, he looked her up and payed Hatsui a visit (obviously at the time he was not my brother-in-law...Ashley's boyfriend) ...so he has met her. To make a long story short...Hatsui holds a special place in our family. When my parents went to leave, she gave my Dad a doll she made to give to his granddaughter from Hatsui. She crocheted it herself and Emily loves it! She gave them the right color of dress...PINK.
This doll is an instant family heirloom and will be cherished by ME because it was made with Hatsui's own hands and was given to us with love from the lady who took care of my dad while he was serving his mission.
